Free QRIS till app on your phone: QRIS-EDC compared with a bank EDC machine and static QRIS
If your shop already has a QRIS sticker from a bank or digital wallet (QRIS is Indonesia's national QR payment standard), there are three ways to accept payment. The customer can scan the sticker and type in the amount themselves. You can also apply to a bank for an EDC machine (a payment terminal), which shows a QRIS code with the amount already filled in. The third way is a till app on your phone such as QRIS-EDC, which is free and creates a QRIS code with the amount from your shop's sticker.
All three are still QRIS transactions, so the MDR (the service fee charged by the QRIS provider) set by Bank Indonesia applies in the same way. Micro businesses pay no MDR on transactions of up to IDR 500,000.
Comparison of the options
| Option | Cost | Does the customer type in the amount? | Equipment needed | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Static QRIS (sticker or printout) | The sticker is free. MDR under Bank Indonesia rules. | Yes. The customer scans the code, types in the amount, and then enters their PIN. | A QRIS sticker from a bank or digital wallet provider | Micro and small businesses, according to Bank Indonesia |
| Bank EDC machine with dynamic QRIS | BCA: no rental fee for new merchants. BRI: its official page does not state the rental fee. QRIS MDR and card MDR apply. | No. The cashier enters the amount on the machine. | An EDC machine from the bank and business documents. BRI requires a BRI account. | Medium and large businesses or businesses with many transactions, according to Bank Indonesia, and shops that also want to accept debit and credit cards |
| QRIS-EDC on a phone | Free, with no subscription and no per-transaction fee from the app. MDR under Bank Indonesia rules. | No. You type the amount on your phone. | An Android phone or iPhone with a browser and camera, and the shop's QRIS sticker. You can add a 58 mm or 80 mm Bluetooth receipt printer. | Warungs (small neighbourhood shops), street vendors, food stalls, and small shops that already have a QRIS sticker |
We took the bank and app details in the table from their official pages on 24 October 2026.
Static QRIS
According to Bank Indonesia's QRIS page (external site), static QRIS does not contain the amount, so the customer has to type in the amount to pay. Dynamic QRIS already contains the amount, so payment is faster and more accurate. The shop only needs to display one QRIS sticker or printout, and both the customer and the shop receive a notification of the transaction.
EDC machines from banks
EDC BCA (external site) accepts debit cards, credit cards, Flazz (BCA's prepaid card), and QRIS. Dynamic QRIS appears through the QR menu on the machine, with the amount already shown. BCA does not charge an EDC rental fee for new merchants and does not require a minimum balance to be kept in the account. Individual applicants need to prepare, among other things, an electronic identity card (KTP elektronik), an NPWP (taxpayer identification number) if they have one, an NIB (business identification number), a business licence, and photos of the business premises. Card MDR differs by type of card, for example 0.15% for BCA Debit and 2% for Visa or Mastercard. The money from transactions goes into the account after the shop carries out settlement (closing the day's transactions on the machine). If settlement is late, the money may arrive late.
On the BRI EDC + QRIS Dynamic page (external site), BRI asks prospective merchants to open a BRI account and prepare the shop owner's identity documents: KTP (identity card), NPWP, SIUP (trading business licence), and deed of establishment. The shop bears the agreed MDR and the cost if the machine is lost or damaged. The official page does not state the machine rental fee. BRI pays out the money one day after the shop carries out settlement (H+1), including on holidays.
QRIS-EDC
QRIS-EDC is a till app made by HanzCodes. You open it in your phone's browser without downloading anything from the Play Store or App Store, and then scan your shop's QRIS sticker once. After that, every transaction shows a QR code with the exact amount.
The app creates that QR code from your shop's own QRIS, so the customer's money goes into the account linked to that QRIS sticker. HanzCodes does not receive or hold customers' money. The app also does not check payments automatically, so you still check incoming money in the shop's bank or digital wallet app.
You need internet the first time you open its address. After that, the till, the product catalogue, and stock records keep working without internet, because everything is processed on the phone. The app stores sales data on the phone in encrypted form (scrambled so that other people cannot read it) and does not send it to a server. Data-sharing features, for example Sinyal Harga Sembako (staple food price signals), stay off until you switch them on in the Profil (Profile) menu. QRIS-EDC also deducts stock automatically, prepares daily and weekly reports that you can download as PDF or Excel files, and prints receipts through a Bluetooth printer. The QRIS-EDC page explains how to get started, and the solutions for small businesses page lists other options for shops.
QRIS MDR rates as of October 2026
The MDR (Merchant Discount Rate) is the service fee that a payment service provider, for example a bank or digital wallet, charges the shop for each QRIS transaction. The shop bears this fee, and Bank Indonesia does not allow shops to pass it on to customers. The rates below have applied since 1 October 2026, according to BI Press Release No. 28/159/DKom (external site) and Bank Indonesia's QRIS MDR table (external site).
- Micro businesses: 0% for transactions of up to IDR 500,000, and 0.3% for transactions above IDR 500,000.
- Small, medium, and large businesses: 0% for transactions of up to IDR 100,000, and 0.7% for transactions above IDR 100,000.
For example, a micro business receives a payment of IDR 1,000,000 through QRIS. With an MDR of 0.3%, the fee is IDR 3,000. Ask your bank or QRIS provider which business category your shop belongs to. A single QRIS transaction can be no more than IDR 10,000,000.
How to use QRIS-EDC
- Open qris-edc.hanzcodes.my.id in your phone's browser, for example Chrome or Safari, and tap "Coba Sekarang, Gratis" (Try it now, free). Make sure the phone is connected to the internet the first time you open it.
- Read the introduction screens, then tap "Daftarkan Toko Anda" (Register your shop). By continuing, you agree to the app's Syarat & Ketentuan (Terms and Conditions).
- Fill in the shop name, the owner's name, the phone number, the address, and the business category. This data is stored on your phone.
- Choose how to lock the app: a 6-digit PIN, a password of at least 8 characters, or Kunci Sidik Jari/Wajah (fingerprint or face lock) if your phone supports it. Then choose a security question and write the answer on paper. The app shows that answer only once, and you will need it if you forget your PIN or password.
- Open the Profil menu, choose "Pindai Stiker QRIS" (Scan QRIS sticker), and point the camera at the shop's QRIS sticker or choose a photo of it. The app shows the shop name and city recorded in that QRIS. Save it only if both match your sticker.
- On the Kasir (Till) page, type in the total or choose items from the catalogue, then choose QRIS. The screen shows a QR code labelled QRIS Dinamis (dynamic QRIS) together with the total to pay, and the customer scans it from their bank or digital wallet app.
- Open the shop's bank or digital wallet app. If the money has arrived, tick the confirmation box in QRIS-EDC and tap "Dana Masuk, Simpan Transaksi" (Money received, save transaction).
Tips for accepting QRIS safely
- Hand over the goods once you can see the money in the shop's bank or digital wallet app. Rely on the notification or transaction history on the shop's phone, not on the screen of the customer's phone.
- Check that the amount received matches the total, especially when the customer scans a static sticker and types in the amount themselves.
- After scanning the sticker in QRIS-EDC, check the shop name and city that appear. If they are different, customers' money could go into someone else's account.
- QRIS-EDC data exists only on your phone. Make regular backups through the Profil menu so that the data can be restored on another phone if yours is lost or damaged.
